Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous - Enhanced Edition
analyzed 2026-10-04 · sample of 563 English reviews across the whole review history
Players consistently praise the story, which draws mentions in 21% of sampled reviews, and the build variety and player choice that follow from it. One writes "You can play this game in so many styles and ways that you choose." Replayability, customization, and progression draw similar approval, and the world, lore, and music are named as strengths. Combat splits opinion: 28 positive against 27 negative mentions, with players noting both real-time and turn-based options. Criticism clusters around bugs, named in 16.2% of reviews, and balance, where 59 of 63 mentions are negative. Performance, stability, UI, and quest design also draw more negative than positive comment, and the learning curve is called "Very overwhelming at first". Pacing is a frequent complaint, with one player saying the crusade content "crushes all of the main game's momentum". Crusade management, puzzles, and crusade mode recur as topics players raise. Opinion divides on writing, difficulty, voice acting, and the DLC. Content amount and price value are generally viewed favorably, and mods are widely endorsed. The sample is 563 reviews.

That's a huge design flaw especially taking into account that rest of the game (mythic path, plot pacing and writing) is pretty great.
-
Wonderful game, great story and very true to the pathfinder system, however the game still needs a few bits of polish to really shine.
-
Longer vesión: This is a master piece, it has everything i want form a CRPG and more, good story, good characters (companions and NPC), a lot and i mean LOT of options to make you MC the way you want, spells, loot, feats, and more.

bugged progress 137 hours in (crusade part, act 2), would reroll but could not bear to deal with super woke npcs again.

True to be told, it has a lot of bugs, even if i did not find any game breaking ones so far i hear other people who has, but im sure de DEV are gonna fix it (5 parches so far and they keep going).

Combat is handled very well.
-
Very overwhelming at first, but this is a great game with a deep story and great combat with lots of classes to test for replay-ability.
-
There isnt a path that I dont want to try which opens up a ton of replayability, There is both a RTwP and Turn Based combat system for those who like either one so you wont feel alienated and you can easily switch between the two.

You can play this game in so many styles and ways that you choose.
-
+ You can be a lich! A demon! A dragon! A magical flimsy butterfly-angel! Or just an angel. Options, in other words.
-
There are also a ton of class options so you can get very niche with what you want to play.

balance
3 positive · 59 negative · 1 mixed · 0 neutral
-
Balance between two meta games is a mess and you could easily fall into tedious cycle of keeping up with both layers while, IMO, there wasn't a real demand for the whole army management slice of WotR.
-
immediately afterward get jumped by a cutsceen with 3 demons who immediately stinking cloud and autocrit everyone.
-
Insane AC, immunities and spell resistances create an artificial difficulty as my characters whiff or do no damage against creatures who easily wipe my party, only for paltry loot and XP, and a story that sort of just muddles along, with NPCs I just can't get excited about.

player choice

amazing game with lots of meaningful choices and freedom, one of the best rpgs i've played!
-
In addition, your Mythic path unlocks unique solutions to quests, new units in the crusade system, and even special events such as help in a fight coming when you least expect it.
-
Cool setting, decent writing, some great companions, above-average choice reactivity, good music, and a lot of depth to its character-building.

You can just tell there is a crap ton of content, and the game play is pretty bug-less from what I've seen.

Very in-depth RPG, good bit of replay-ability.
-
I like how they maintained the combination of strategic and tactical play, but did it in a different way so that it feels fresh.

That's a huge design flaw especially taking into account that rest of the game (mythic path, plot pacing and writing) is pretty great.

The progression of items actually feels pretty good.

The different paths are all interesting with lots of flavor and story, like it says in the tooltop: there's no wrong choice.

I look forward to playing through it again with a completely different party makeup.

WotR gets the class mechanics right, and when it come to player characterization there's a lot of choice. This very much allows for rich character creation (reminiscent of IWD2's use of 3.
-
+ Character creation is a hole you can sink in for hours, literally.

-
difficulty
18 positive · 13 negative · 7 mixed · 8 neutral
-
Difficulty customisation lets you play at your skill level.
-
Or adjust the difficulty and play a Gnome Barbarian Cavalier with a Triceratops Steed because you honestly can and no one is stopping you.
-
This combined with the customized difficulty settings really allow you to play any character you want and totally control the game play.

learning curve
9 positive · 26 negative · 1 mixed · 5 neutral
-
5/Pathfinder rules they were still a bit of a headache to deal with at times, particularly when you aren't sure if something isn't working due to an intentional decision or due to a bug.
-
Very overwhelming at first, but this is a great game with a deep story and great combat with lots of classes to test for replay-ability.
-
I've never played a game that told me less about it's systems, less about it's rules, less about it's world, less about it's tone and less about how to play it than Wrath of the Righteous in the first 30 minutes.

-
writing
19 positive · 21 negative · 0 mixed · 0 neutral
-
I used to love these games but the politics have killed it for me, not interested in that.
-
* Writing is god-awful and needs serious work.
-
For every bit of decent writing, you will get some sort of mouth breathing "Hurr-dee-durr" moment where your choices basically make you out to be either a psychotic or moron.

content amount
26 positive · 7 negative · 2 mixed · 1 neutral

You can just tell there is a crap ton of content, and the game play is pretty bug-less from what I've seen.

price value
24 positive · 7 negative · 3 mixed · 2 neutral
-
Very Good Game so far, especially considering that it's not even full price.
-
I would strongly recommend you buy this game at full price to support the developers, just maybe do it a year or two from launch when the game is actually finished.
-
You are getting your money's worth here.
-
-
game length
13 positive · 8 negative · 0 mixed · 8 neutral
-
Great game so far - 80 hours in on first playthrough, will defo play through another round, im still in ACT 3 so PLENTY of game left to play.
-
Longer and harder than the first one, with bigger world-implications through the story and its completion.
-
PROS: This game is a very long game. It has a rich story which changes depending on how you create your character, your dialogue choices, your leveling up decisions and all of this makes replaying this wonderful game over and over a joy as well as a necessity.
-
-
pacing
4 positive · 21 negative · 0 mixed · 1 neutral
-
And there probably is a good setup of commander skills with army, yet it felt rushed and crushes all of the main game's momentum.
-
The frustration in my previous two paragraphs was mostly with the pacing of Act 3.
-
Gameplay is artificially prolonged by scenario (like Abyss quests) and strategic mode.
-
-
updates

Would probably give it a time and return like in a year or two, when suitable set of community QoL improvements and developer polishing will be there.
-
True to be told, it has a lot of bugs, even if i did not find any game breaking ones so far i hear other people who has, but im sure de DEV are gonna fix it (5 parches so far and they keep going).

Currently they HAVE patched ALOT of the Crusade bugs or weird issues that popped up due to the Auto mode.

But I have my fingers crossed and am hopeful for future improvements in patches in DLC, so even tho I give it a 6.
-
Simply said, Great game, love the DLC, love the story, the mythic paths allows multiple playthrough without any issues.

graphics
15 positive · 6 negative · 2 mixed · 0 neutral
-
Art: 9/10 The graphics are astounding, the spells are incredible, the gear appearance is diverse and satisfying.
-
The game looks good, plays mostly decently although there are still bugs they are working out (and occasionally introducing).
-
They have also improved on the graphical side of things, fully rotatable dungeons, all the demons from the pathfinder bestiary, and some downright wonderful character art.
-
-
performance
1 positive · 20 negative · 1 mixed · 0 neutral
-
Gradually had to turn down the graphics as the game went on because it got LAGGY to the extreme in Acts 4-Final.
-
I wish the load times were shorter.
-
* Loading screens. So many of them and they are so long.
-
-
quest design
6 positive · 14 negative · 1 mixed · 0 neutral
-
Many quest chains are broken, companion quests just refuse to progress or characters don't trigger like they're supposed to.
-
Note: I did get stuck twice, once in the beginning of act 1 where I had to click some random npc under a rock to progress the main story that I somehow missed.
-
I am now deeper in to the game and I am still not happy with the way puzzles are set up or the way there is no real way to tell what is going on with quests or where you are at in the quests.
-
-
voice acting
5 positive · 12 negative · 1 mixed · 2 neutral
-
The fact that only like a third of the dialogue is voiced really hurts this game because there are practically novels worth of exposition in between each fun part of the game and I just can't bring myself to see it through.
-
Also I feel like the VA isnt complete.
-
The voice acting matches the dull dialogue, as actors can't really get excited about reciting lazy lines.
-
-
mods
17 positive · 1 negative · 0 mixed · 0 neutral
-
Found a mod that removed the worst of it.
-
Personally, I strongly recommend using the toybox mod to remove as much RNG as possible and speed up animations in order to make it a less frustrating experience, TB mode is now officially in the game so you no longer need a mod for that.
-
I hear there are mods to take the tedium out of this, but your mileage may vary.
-
-
ui

* Inventory management is a nightmare.
-
Expect a lot of UI bugs, spells not working as intended, and much more.

developer conduct
6 positive · 9 negative · 0 mixed · 0 neutral
-
Owlcat says that they are "working on it".
-
Strange that they advertise the bundle, sell the bundle, but accept no responsibility for it not being delivered.
-
Unfortunately, the studio behind it is Russian, and as such, if you buy their products, their taxes contribute to subsidizing the Russian military.

music

Cool setting, decent writing, some great companions, above-average choice reactivity, good music, and a lot of depth to its character-building.

Sound 6/10: The music is good and pretty standard fantasy RPG fare in my opinion.
-

level design
2 positive · 10 negative · 2 mixed · 0 neutral
-
I wish act V was a little more unique compared to act III.
-
and once in act 2 when I got stuck in an area with way higher level enemies without a way out because it locks the exit.
-
It's an absolutely massive game where the highs of character building and combat are really high and the lows of difficulty spikes and areas that are a slog to get through are really low.
-
-
lore
9 positive · 2 negative · 0 mixed · 1 neutral
-
The lore of Pathfinder is great, no one doubts that, it has a lot of similarities to the other fantasies you know so you will never feel overwhelmed by its presentation.
-
* The HOMM inspired campaign activity (but not as much flexibility in it - I guess to keep it fitting in with the game world/lore).
-
The world itself is rather fascinating too, and in fact it encourages you to read each book you find for every little scrap of lore that might further understanding.

Cool game baldurs gate and hmm3, but save game still crash while playing on linux proton

I have 17 hours into it and it has been mostly frustration with all of the locking up when loading zones.

-
realism
8 positive · 1 negative · 0 mixed · 0 neutral
-
Wonderful game, great story and very true to the pathfinder system, however the game still needs a few bits of polish to really shine.
-
The adaptation is really faitful to the Pathfinder game rules and I think should be considered the start of a new age of glorious CRPGs (Tyranny is right there beside it).
-
An absolutely fantastic recreation of the Pathfinder 1e rules in videogame format, but the star of the show is the incredible diversity of options for how to take the story - each of the ten mythic paths isn't just a completely new playstyle, but also its own story.
-
-
art style
7 positive · 1 negative · 0 mixed · 0 neutral
-
The spells and abilities have a unique feel, the art of the environments are immersive and engaging, for being an isometric game.
-
This is definitely one of the best RPGs I played in the last ~5 years: the art is incredible, the music is catchy, the story is worth the hassle until the end, and it's not easy to get bored through the game.
-
I like the character progression, the companions are all interesting, the story is engaging and I really enjoy the art style.
-
-
exploration
7 positive · 0 negative · 0 mixed · 0 neutral
-
Exploring the adventure path as a computer game was a true marvel, loved every step of the way (except that the military stat was effing wacked).
-
To all of the secrets that are literally creeping around every corner. How each tiny little choice you make radically alters the future in some manner.
-
It’s clearly obvious the devs worked their asses off making such a huge world with a ton of nuances and components to combat, crafting, exploring and more.

It's been a month since release and it's still frozen at the end of Act 2, unable to work on a MacBook Air M1 bought in May 2021.
-
Nevermind the recent data tracking implementation fiasco, which was more than a low blow towards a loyal playerbase, but a forced breach of privacy against people who had purchased the game.
-
The negative is for forcing the Player to install a data collection tracker.

controls
0 positive · 5 negative · 0 mixed · 0 neutral

Controller integration might be nice for some people, but it glitches and spams pop-ups asking if you want to switch if you've got a controller connected but aren't using it.
-
Had to load mods to make playable (slow movement in combat and out).
-
Moving in tight corridors is utter pain, during fight characters could run completely away or ignore action and waste it, UI can show you options that are not available, lot's of stuff that make you reload fights again and again.
