Blue Prince
analyzed 2026-10-09 · sample of 792 English reviews across the whole review history
Across 792 sampled reviews, gameplay is the most-mentioned aspect, and the praise is largely positive. Players describe the shift from an ordinary run into "Eureka!" moments, and one calls the game "how fresh this felt in a very very hard to enter genre". Exploration and story draw similar warmth, with reviewers citing uncovering layers of secrets and an "elegantly intertwined story". Addictiveness, music, art style, and atmosphere are almost uniformly praised, and lore is frequently raised as an intriguing mystery. Opinion splits on difficulty and progression, where positive mentions outnumber negative ones but criticism persists. Pacing is the clearest fault line: negative mentions far outnumber positive, with players warning that focusing only on the end leads to burnout and that the game "doesn't respect your time". Balance draws similar criticism, with complaints about RNG-heavy room requirements. UI, bugs, stability, controls, and animation also skew negative. Recurring themes players bring up include puzzles, rng, puzzle design, grind, and the save system. Content amount, price value, and replayability are mostly praised, and multiplayer is noted as good for playing with friends or family.

… to pull and some still seem to leave more questions than answers, and little compares to the moments when your fairly average playthrough turns into multiple "Eureka!" moments in a row!
-
Very original mechanics.
-
Playing the demo first at a friends house, I was delighted by how fresh this felt in a very very hard to enter genre.

-
Very intriguing story.
-
After a number of hours spent pleasantly intrigued by the game's mechanics, rules, and elegantly intertwined story, I do unfortunately feel defeated not by its many puzzles but it's randomness, which along with some other design choices limit their pursuit.
-
I strongly believe that the answers you will get after completing the game will make for an overall great story nevertheless I won't be investing ~ 80 more hrs to get there myself.

exploration
87 positive · 9 negative · 0 mixed · 0 neutral
-
While it has some flaws and frustrations, it is a very good game that really scratches that itch of uncovering layers of secrets.
-
A simple gameplay loop of choosing rooms in a house that gradually gets more and more complex as you discover puzzles and hidden secrets requiring specific combinations of rooms in certain areas of the house to fully discover.
-
The game gives you an end goal but you only have to play for a couple of hours to understand that there's much more to discover!

difficulty
39 positive · 27 negative · 12 mixed · 9 neutral

Smooth, intriguing, great soundtrack, great art, great story, challenging.
-
Puzzles are difficult but not stupidly so.
-
Some of the harder puzzles are challenging enough but not impossible and you can figure it out on your own without any help.

-
progression
45 positive · 26 negative · 2 mixed · 2 neutral
-
Very fun meta progression.
-
There are some permanent upgrades you can get that help you out with additional resources or other benefits, but the main thing you carry over from day to day is knowledge.
-
After credits as with other roguelikes the small unlocks make future runs and managing of missing rooms alot easier.

pacing
9 positive · 62 negative · 3 mixed · 0 neutral

The game has so much else to uncover and if you only focus on the end you'll get burnt out.
-
After that it feels like the game completely doesn't respect your time.
-
I'll be upfront, this game had a lot of hype but the slow-burn gave me some whiplash, that's more of a problem of industry hype than the game itself though.

first game in a long time i've felt truly sucked into [in a good way]

balance
9 positive · 57 negative · 2 mixed · 1 neutral
-
However, as a puzzle-games enthusiast first, I find the balance between puzzle-solving and rogue-like to fall on the wrong side.
-
A bit RNG heavy, as a lot of puzzles require you to get a couple of specific rooms, or a room with the right item, on the same day.
-
The strategy game is the main event, you can't progress the puzzles without luck (and a bit of loaded dice) on your side.

content amount
56 positive · 10 negative · 1 mixed · 0 neutral

Despite the 32 hours, it still doesn't feel like we are close to fully completing the game yet, there are so many threads left to pull and some still seem to leave more questions than answers, and little compares to the moments when your fairly average playthrough turns into multiple "Eureka!
-
The depth of this game has truly surprised me - nearly 20 hours in and no end on the enjoyment in sight.
-
There are so many puzzles.

lore
49 positive · 4 negative · 0 mixed · 0 neutral

And all of this is in service to the puzzles, which are great and tell of an intriguing mystery with deep lore, but you gotta get decent at the card game if you even want to see them.
-
Hour 190: I've now reached what I think is marked as the end of the final 'act' of the known endgame - the lore is told in a very intriguing way, often answering one question with 3 more questions.
-
It's like Myst, with some Disco Elysium style backstory, with puzzles that won't make you feel stupid - and secrets that will make you feel amazingly clever.

I think most puzzle enthusiasts should expect to have a great time with this game up to the credits roll, which should take you a weekend or two.
-
I finished the base game in about 20 hours, which is going to differ for anyone who plays the game.
-
A single play is about 20 minutes, each time different with an ever changing house and mysteries to discover.

learning curve
14 positive · 11 negative · 1 mixed · 9 neutral
-
At first, it feels like random tile placing and by the end of it I feel like a true master of the manor, crafting elaborate setups with strategic planning that is never handheld by the game, but is intuitively taught though seamless learning.
-
If you aren't good at video games, this game is super simple to pick up; It isn't mechanically challenging.
-
when beating the game the first time is the tutorial you know you're in for a good time

price value
24 positive · 6 negative · 3 mixed · 0 neutral
-
Having now reached room 46, I can say the initial hunt to claim the estate was filled with fun puzzles and plenty of drafting gambles, I am excited to keep exploring but I can say this is worth the price and then some
-
The game is underpriced, in my opinion.
-
Need to put a lot more time in but i think its excellent value and really well done.
-
-
quest design
15 positive · 13 negative · 3 mixed · 0 neutral
-
The objective that you're set at the beginning of the game is not the end objective - it just keeps going deeper and deeper.
-
Furthermore, there are plenty of side quests to embark on, and so so so much lore for you to discover.
-
While this game is not perfect, I have come to the conclusion that this is the best, least flawed version we've seen so far in this sub-genre, and it actually captures the "treasure hunt" style without losing itself in being convoluted.

replayability

level design
11 positive · 14 negative · 0 mixed · 0 neutral
-
This has all the charm of Myst and 7th Guest, but with random layouts and object placement.
-
TL;DR Game is fantastic, but falls off in the late game as the puzzles get too specific with required house drafting
-
Runs are frustrating RNG fests where you can make optimal choices and fail completely because the game drafts rooms which make it impossible to proceed further.

graphics
19 positive · 2 negative · 0 mixed · 0 neutral
-
Makes it a bit more punishing so far, but it's smooth transitions and sharp graphics grant it forgiveness.
-
I adore the music, the game is gorgeous graphically and past the text being a smidgen small on steam deck, it runs perfectly on it
-
This is a beautiful game with some of the most intricate and brain-twisting puzzles I have ever seen

relaxation
17 positive · 1 negative · 0 mixed · 0 neutral
-
For people like me, it's the relaxing vibe, almost deck-building and rogue-like progression that made it a great time.
-
Unexpectedly enjoying the break from conflict and violence.
-
The deckbuilding roguelite aspect of it still has me engaged even after beating the main objective, good chill time killer.

ui
1 positive · 16 negative · 0 mixed · 0 neutral
-
Another issue this game has is the inability to quit game without ending run, so a fair amount of my playtime is likely AFK time (unfortunately I have no way to quantify it).
-
The workshop needs to be a permanent unlock for the grounds, it's too hard to find for the amount you need it after room 46.
-
although keep a handy 2x magnifying glass handy for some of the fine print.

world
15 positive · 2 negative · 0 mixed · 0 neutral
-
There's a very well-crafted world around the game, and it's always great when you get to piece little things together to understand something new.
-
The house is empty and mysterious. There are signs that other people were once there, but now you are alone, trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together.
-
The main idea is fun and the setting and story are interesting.
-
-
bugs
1 positive · 12 negative · 0 mixed · 0 neutral

My only issue with it is the few annoying bugs on steam deck, it's a really good fit for the deck and not getting any cinematic is really frustrating.

FIX THE BUG IN THE BASEMENT where players can fall and get stuck between boxes.
-
There are still bugs that cause soft locks/crashes.

emotional impact

To me, this game was a roguelite, a puzzle game, and a touching experience that many games cannot recreate.

The depth in which the game takes you it feels like you've been drawn in yourself.

multiplayer

-
The most rewarding way to play is blind, either solo or with some friends.
-
Great for playing together with a family member or friend. Only one character to control, but two pairs of eyes make noticing things easier, and there's plenty of things to ruminate over together.
-
You even can play it with someone next to you, two brains really are better than one! Solving mysteries together makes the experience even more fun.

controls

The movement in this game is excruciatingly slow, even when "running".
-
Lots of slow/unskippable animations and slow movement make the game take a lot longer than it should.
-
I mean the sound and such are pretty nice and tranquil but the movement and the unskippable intro is a little much for me.

The weird glitchy-looking video screen appeared on my Steam Deck and the game locked up with no way to proceed.

The only complaints I would have are the number of overly slow animations like with the computer monitors, and every special item.

But instead, players risk missing out on the big payoff of the ending which to me feels like a huge oversight on the devs.
-
Don't expect help from the Dogubomb customer support team -- not once in all this time was there a response to my support ticket.
-
And individually none of these are terrible (ok, apart from the puzzle with the wheels), but all together it makes me want to scream at the developers for going out of their way to make the game more annoying to play.

How this report was made
- Population
- all Steam reviews of the game (every language, purchase type, and verdict), walked newest-first per window; only English-language reviews are analyzed
- Sample
- 792 English reviews, time-proportional draw over 79 windows (newest-first within each), taken from an all-language walk and kept English-only — where English is a minority the sample runs smaller than the draw, and every margin of error is computed at 792
- Aspect yield
- 568 of 792 analyzed reviews carry at least one aspect (71.7%); every share on this page divides by all 792
- Interval regime
- calm: standard margins of error for a share of a sample (Wilson interval), no widening needed
- Fetch paths
- 79 time windows fetched directly (windowed)
- Language mix

- Steam-marked windows
- none flagged by Steam (Valve's off-topic flagging began March 2019)
- Marked share
- 0.0% of sample inside marked windows, under the 2% floor
- Narrative
- passed the grounding gate after one corrective retry
- Evidence floor
- aspects and emergent themes appear only with 5+ supporting reviews; smaller counts sit at the classifier's false-positive floor
- Instrument readings
- measured once on the study corpus for this model and prompt: frozen calibration, not properties of this run
- · aspect tagging vs. human labels
- 0.801 [0.752–0.844] (F1 against a human-labeled test set; 1.0 is best)
- · quotes filed under the wrong aspect
- 11.6% [6.6–19.6] of quotes, measured by hand on a sample; lower is better — measured on the prior model (2026-08-05); re-measurement pending
- · independent model vs. production labels
- 0.791 [0.772–0.810] (F1 of the production labeler against an independent judge model) — measured on the prior model (2026-07-25); re-measurement pending
