God of War Ragnarök
analyzed 2026-10-23 · sample of 419 English reviews across the whole review history
The story is the most frequently discussed aspect, and the response to it is largely positive, with players calling it "the best story telling i have seen in a game in a long time" and describing "an emotional journey of a father and son". Combat and gameplay draw similar praise, with the combat described as "intuitive and engaging" and the graphics noted as an improvement. Characters divide opinion more than the story does: some find them "so well written and thought trough", while others take issue with the writing, asking "if the characters could shut up for like a minute". Pacing is the clearest point of criticism, with most mentions negative and players describing sections as "slow and tedious". Stability and platform access also draw complaints, including the requirement that "you have to use a PSN account to log in even though it is on steam". Performance, by contrast, is mostly praised, with one player reporting "the performance is flawless". Smaller themes recur without a clear consensus: quest design, level design, difficulty, and the Valhalla DLC all come up, as do progression and the upgrade system. Value is generally viewed favorably, with the game called "definitely worth it", and the voice acting, particularly Christopher Judge's, is singled out for praise.

Also fuck sony for making you have a psn account just to reach the main menu but there is a mod less then 200mb that completely removes it so theres that.
-
Great game but you have to use a PSN account to log in even though it is on steam.
-
The requirement for a PSN account to play a single-player game is completely unnecessary and frustrating.

pacing
3 positive · 23 negative · 2 mixed · 0 neutral

Here is the entire game play cycle that repeats over and over and over again:
-
Atreus is distracted by pretty much every little thing that comes up and Kratos - a character renown for decisiveness and wisdom - spends most of the 30-40 hour slog umming and erring over what to do, he comes across as a towering himbo who can't decide what to do next.
-
great game improved combat since the last one, I beat it on Give Me No Mercy and Give Me God of War, smoother gameplay not just improvements, some sections like Atrues is slow and tedious but its a well made game packed with a lot of content its a good game son.

Some people have reported technical issues but so far, I haven’t experienced any issues while playing on high settings (with 6GB VRAM).

I haven't had a single crash in all the hours I've played and the performance is flawless. 4k 60fps with a 4080 and 7800X3D.

Despite how incredible the 2018 version was, Ragnarok offers even more variety: new creatures to battle, bosses to overcome and conquer, puzzles to solve.
-
From the near souls-like combat, to a wide variety of enemies and encounters to meet, God of War: Ragnarok is truly a cinematic masterpiece.

Even the side missions are completely and utterly awesome.
-
Side quests are often a good balance of challenge to reward without feeling inconvenient for the most part due to the well thought out Map design and mission design.
-
In my opinion the best single player game ever created, gameplay, graphics, character development, main story are all very well done, every side quest is unique and interesting.

What makes this worse is that the official website to link your PSN account is broken, making it impossible to progress pass this step unless you download the mod.
-
The story and gameplay more than make up for those issues I have encountered (Quest marker staying after completed quest, just had to reload. And Atreus stuck in pose from a cinematic until I went to the shop)

level design
5 positive · 5 negative · 0 mixed · 0 neutral
-
This game would be perfect without the Ironwood section.
-
The other downfall in this game is an area of the map towards the end of the game that is without doubt, the worst designed part of a world map in any game, ever, that I have seen in over 30 years of gaming.
-
- You waste time in so many areas that do not contribute anything to the story like Ironwood and they also made Vanaheim for some reason 3x times as big as other areas without any need?
-
-
writing

The writing has just gone very down hill.
-
Would be perfect if the characters could shut up for like a minute.
-
- The narrative of "I just don't wanna be a monster/bad anymore" feels forced by some woke propaganda feminizing every character and they're trying to copy paste this story to everyone - Kratos, Mimir, Thor, Thor's wife , while Atreus just runs …

I went into this game praying that it wouldn't disappoint and fall short as many sequels end up doing nowadays, however off the bat I was instantly impressed and became re-immersed in the world and it's characters.

But it's very annoying how ultra spongy the enemies become, you have a very little sense of improvement when you level up.

Weirdly some boss fights you'd think should be hard are fairly easy and fun, minibosses can be insanely difficult and work entirely different to the prior game.
-
Bosses are tanky, overpowered and 100 times faster than Kratos.

i play with a xbox controller and every fix ive found hasnt worked for me one worked for about a few hours then stopped working
-
Every action used in this game is the B Button - EVERYTHING - so if your in a fight and need to pickup health and you are near an item, well 65% your are going to pick up the wrong item and die.

How this report was made
- Population
- all Steam reviews of the game (every language, purchase type, and verdict), walked newest-first per window; only English-language reviews are analyzed
- Sample
- 419 English reviews, time-proportional draw over 26 windows (newest-first within each), taken from an all-language walk and kept English-only — where English is a minority the sample runs smaller than the draw, and every margin of error is computed at 419
- Aspect yield
- 208 of 419 analyzed reviews carry at least one aspect (49.6%); every share on this page divides by all 419
- Interval regime
- calm: standard margins of error for a share of a sample (Wilson interval), no widening needed
- Fetch paths
- 26 time windows fetched directly (windowed)
- Language mix
- 1,000 fetched: english 419 · brazilian 90 · russian 67 · 20 more
- Steam-marked windows
- none flagged by Steam (Valve's off-topic flagging began March 2019)
- Marked share
- 0.0% of sample inside marked windows, under the 2% floor
- Narrative
- passed the grounding gate first try
- Evidence floor
- aspects and emergent themes appear only with 5+ supporting reviews; smaller counts sit at the classifier's false-positive floor
- Instrument readings
- measured once on the study corpus for this model and prompt: frozen calibration, not properties of this run
- · aspect tagging vs. human labels
- 0.801 [0.752–0.844] (F1 against a human-labeled test set; 1.0 is best)
- · quotes filed under the wrong aspect
- 11.6% [6.6–19.6] of quotes, measured by hand on a sample; lower is better — measured on the prior model (2026-08-05); re-measurement pending
- · independent model vs. production labels
- 0.791 [0.772–0.810] (F1 of the production labeler against an independent judge model) — measured on the prior model (2026-07-25); re-measurement pending
