Mad Max
analyzed 2026-08-09 · sample of 468 English reviews across the whole review history
Players consistently praise the combat, with many describing it as powerful both in and out of the car, and the world itself is a frequent highlight—reviewers call the environment "engaging and surprisingly well-filled" and note that it "really does feel like a hopeless, desolate, dying ****hole." Graphics and performance also draw strong approval, with one player writing that it "LOOKS BETTER THAN LIKE MODERN AAAs" and another noting it "can run on basically anything." Atmosphere, customization, and voice acting are mentioned favorably, and several players describe being "completely addicted" or having the game "took away weeks of free time." Criticism clusters around quest design, which players describe as "lots of small chores game" and "mindless ubisoft like garbage," and the amount of content, with some wishing "there was more" while others warn that completionists may find it a "deal breaker." Balance and stability are also sore points: enemies are called "HP sponges," and players report crashes and freezing. The story draws mixed reactions—some were "hoping for another end"—and the game length is often seen as too short. Grind and driving come up as recurring themes, with long drives and repetitive tasks frequently mentioned. Opinion splits on controls, with driving praised as "the most fun mechanic" while other input issues are noted, and on price value, where the game is often called worth picking up "especially if its on sale."

Even the survival-ish aspect of the water bottle felt fitting.

gud combat + can run on basically anything so pretty gud

The scrap and survival aspects are fun, the environment is engaging and surprisingly well-filled for it being an apocalyptic setting, the combat works well, and the driving is the most fun mechanic.

This was one of the few games where I was hoping for another end .
-
After the first 10 hours, the game-play has many periods of lull; but if you can make it through that - the ending is worth it.

It really does feel like a hopeless, desolate, dying ****hole full of oil waste, rust, garbage, sand, and rotting meat.

If you're a completionist, that might be a deal breaker, otherwise it's worth picking up, especially if its on sale.
-
I just wish there was more.
-
The ubisoft style collectathon combined with sluggish movement, constant input munching and combat straight out of Arkham Asylum makes this a poor rip-off of other poor games.

I paid 7 bucks for this game. It is legitimately one of the best movie-themed games I have ever played. All around, a fantastic experience - if I could go back in time, I would have bought this instead of MGS 5 on launch day.
-
I got this game for a really low price, and if you've got a chance to get it for a big discount I suggest you try it out.

progression
20 positive · 5 negative · 2 mixed · 2 neutral
-
There is a great deal of upgrading and unlocking new items for your car and character.
-
3) No need to grind much in the open world to complete the main story, unlike recent Assassin creed games.
-
Was nice to upgrade the strongholds tho its redundant to bother with more than the first one you encounter as you can fast travel so easily.

quest design
8 positive · 20 negative · 0 mixed · 0 neutral
-
The typical WB stock do lots of small chores game.
-
Open world activities are mindless ubisoft like garbage but somehow even more of a chore to complete and you are basically forced to do some of this awful side content to progress the story or you won't have the correct upgrades.
-
1) Death Races and mandatory story races are frustrating and not fun, game often gives some other vehicles for these races and they move like a soap on a wet floor.

Nice thematic setpieces throughout the environment like an abandoned airport, old tunnels, a dried out harbor, sewers, and etc.

1) Great environmental design, looks great even today.

It is open-world BUT there is a clear path and the open world isn't so huge that you feel overwhelmed.

atmosphere
15 positive · 1 negative · 0 mixed · 0 neutral
-
* The environment/atmosphere - this is a "every frame a painting" kind of game.
-
But as far as the atmosphere of the game is concerned and the comparison with the movie, that's where the game shines.
-
They really nailed overall atmosphere of Mad Max, feels a lot like a sequel to Fury Road.

exploration
10 positive · 2 negative · 0 mixed · 0 neutral
-
If you like open world games with massive environments to explore, sort of "loosely" similar to Far Cry type games, only rather than upgrading your guns it's all about upgrading your car in this game, you probably will love this!
-
It is a joy to roam around the wasteland tearing down fortresses and blowing things up while upgrading your "Magnum Opus".
-
Really enjoying this interpretation of the Mad Max universe, I love the free roam element and I am enjoying exploring the world and the story.

balance
1 positive · 8 negative · 0 mixed · 0 neutral
-
While the combat is fluid and plays similar to Batman it has very little variety and enemies are just HP sponges even with maxed melee and there are hordes of them, so fun.
-
3) Re-skinned bosses for all Top dogs.
-
Only big flaw thats brakes emersion is the crappy "survive" mechanic where you need food and water to heal and bullets which is suppose to be a rare commonity.

I was at JB HIFI last week and it took a million years to set itself up, and when i started "playing" Mad Max, the lag was unbearable, the graphics were blurry and my screen kept on freezing up.

Story was good, missions were fun, car mechanics are solid, map activities were a bit repetitive.

ai behavior
2 positive · 5 negative · 0 mixed · 0 neutral
-
-Poor Ai
-
The people you meet on random encounters are pretty much the same people saying the same stupid crap.
-
Steam controller issues aside, it is a very generic AAA game: basicwriting, simple AI, large repetative world, punch-and-counter combat, no room for player freedom.

Why is it that with such a terrific Game there is no further DLC's or mod's or even any further true to the game follow -ups
-
This game was worth the $$$ and sadly does not seem to have any dlc.
-
Shame there was never any DLC or new game plus for the game as it was thoroughly enjoyable and kept me coming back for more even after my first 2 playthroughs.

-
On top of this navigating areas takes 10x longer than it should because you have slowly climb everything and run about 2 mph.
-
Graphics animation and voice acting are all great but the core of the game wich i think is the story and the excitement of playing were rushed, this game is OK but out of 40 playing hours 10 were the real fun ones, 20 are needed to complete the game and everything …
-
Um dos poucos pontos negativos que percebi e, provavelmente, o único relevante a ponto de ser comentando, é que o jogo chega a ficar repetitivo em certos momentos, o que é inevitável nesse sistema de RPG em mundo aberto.

- 468 English reviews, time-proportional draw over 132 windows (newest-first within each), taken from an all-language walk and kept English-only — where English is a minority the sample runs smaller than the draw, and every margin of error is computed at 468
- Aspect yield
- 266 of 468 analyzed reviews carry at least one aspect (56.8%); every share on this page divides by all 468
- Interval regime
- calm: standard margins of error for a share of a sample (Wilson interval), no widening needed
- Fetch paths
- 132 time windows fetched directly (windowed)
- Language mix
- 1,000 fetched: english 468 · russian 118 · brazilian 104 · 22 more
- Steam-marked windows
- none flagged by Steam (Valve's off-topic flagging began March 2019)
- Marked share
- 0.0% of sample inside marked windows, under the 2% floor
- Narrative
- passed the grounding gate first try
- Evidence floor
- aspects and emergent themes appear only with 5+ supporting reviews; smaller counts sit at the classifier's false-positive floor
- Instrument readings
- measured once on the study corpus for this model and prompt: frozen calibration, not properties of this run
- · aspect tagging vs. human labels
- 0.766 [0.713–0.811] (F1 against a human-labeled test set; 1.0 is best)
- · quotes filed under the wrong aspect
- 11.6% [6.6–19.6] of quotes, measured by hand on a sample; lower is better
- · independent model vs. production labels
- 0.791 [0.772–0.810] (F1 of the production labeler against an independent judge model)
