Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord
analyzed 2026-08-09 · sample of 497 English reviews across the whole review history
Players most often talk about Bannerlord in terms of its core loop, with 21.7% of sampled reviews mentioning gameplay and leaning positive. The combat draws similar praise, described through moments like "watching waves of your men assault castle walls" and "pulling off a lopsided victory in an open field battle." The game's pull is also evident in addictiveness, where 32 of 33 mentions are positive, with players noting "you'll lose track of time while playing this game." Realism and replayability are mentioned without a single negative note. The sharpest criticism centers on technical state and AI. Bugs appear in 9.1% of reviews, with 41 of 45 being negative, citing "back to back game breaking bugs" and "Features that were broken 2 years ago have not been fixed." Stability is similarly lopsided at 26 negative out of 29 mentions, including "Characters Keep Getting deleted." AI behavior draws 19 negative mentions out of 22, with one player calling it "predictable, easibly maneuverable, undaring and for the worst part boring." Balance, quest design, and developer conduct also skew heavily negative, with complaints about "workshops are still completely useless" and "Features promised 2 years ago are still completely missing." Opinion splits most clearly on content amount, which is evenly divided at 22 positive and 22 negative, and on price value, where 12 negative mentions edge out 9 positive. Players also bring up grind as a recurring theme. Mods are a bright spot at 39 positive out of 48 mentions, though some say they are "waiting for some good mods to be released in order for me to come back to it."

Few things are cooler than watching waves of your men assault castle walls, pulling off a lopsided victory in an open field battle, or watching your crossbowmen mow down waves of looters for fun before selling the lot off them off for hard labor.
-
Also the campaign map is way more captivating since you can infinitely fight everyone, and it's not difficult to hire a new army compared to Warband, the previous game.
-
Buy this and you will learn all about time/money management also while learning to aim a bastard two handed sword at a peasants head from a horse!

I returned to the game recently after not playing it for a few months and have only encountered back to back game breaking bugs, I have tried to reach out to dev support to fix these issues and have not received any kind of response.

content amount
22 positive · 22 negative · 0 mixed · 1 neutral
-
Pretty much the only downside that there isn't much else that changes from one campaign to the next other than battles and character development.
-
The game feels incredibly bare bones (so did base Warband, but this seems worse) there is nothing to do. All my playthroughs have been the same, there like 4 types of banding to kill during the early game. It so boring grinding the same trash enemies, then in the late game it seems still like there is no content.
-
It is not a game - it is demoversion of the game.

It's still fun to do battles and start new campaigns every now and again, especially since there are constant updates and fixes, but even the good ol' M&B battle experience can get old.

There are many ways to play it and the devs are constantly improving the base game.

Features that worked 2 years ago no longer work.

If you look at the community postings or on Taleworlds website every post relates to bugs and crashes players are experiencing, while receiving no help from the developers or staff who are preparing for a console launch in the next month.

This game is a waste of time and money compared to even vanilla Warband, but mods and Warband far outmatch even the best of this game.
-
As it stands now, Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord is not worth the asking price.
-
As it stand right now I wouldn't recommend buying Bannerlord. You may be confused by this after seeing my play time, but my play time of Warband is much greater.

ai behavior

You attack a camp of bandits and want to level your skill by killing them all yourself, so you order your men to follow you. Why do they walk so slooooooow, only when you order them to attack they run faster.

The biggest issue this game faces is the AI, both campaign and combat. Once you've spent a few hours in the game, you will know the behaviour of the AI. It is predictable, easibly maneuverable, undaring and for the worst part boring. The expanded siege system (with …

quest design

-
The quests are pretty cookie cutter but ones that dont involve combat are VERY bland.
-
The 'quests' are just notional ways to gain barely any favor with the local 'notables' - on top of that, they seem to be written by toddlers. And the way they're executed was planned by the same. Diplomacy?
-
Aside from the repetitive quests, I really have no issues.

But the community of the Mount and Blade brand is very helpful and the mods creators are just unbelievable.

Though there isn't much of a quest line like I was kinda hoping for the game itself is very open and fun on top of the great community with outstanding mods.

How this report was made
- Population
- all Steam reviews of the game (every language, purchase type, and verdict), walked newest-first per window; only English-language reviews are analyzed
- Sample
- 497 English reviews, time-proportional draw over 78 windows (newest-first within each), taken from an all-language walk and kept English-only — where English is a minority the sample runs smaller than the draw, and every margin of error is computed at 497
- Aspect yield
- 274 of 497 analyzed reviews carry at least one aspect (55.1%); every share on this page divides by all 497
- Interval regime
- calm: standard margins of error for a share of a sample (Wilson interval), no widening needed
- Fetch paths
- 78 time windows fetched directly (windowed)
- Language mix
- 1,000 fetched: english 498 · turkish 155 · schinese 93 · 22 more
- Steam-marked windows
- none flagged by Steam (Valve's off-topic flagging began March 2019)
- Marked share
- 0.0% of sample inside marked windows, under the 2% floor
- Narrative
- passed the grounding gate first try
- Evidence floor
- aspects and emergent themes appear only with 5+ supporting reviews; smaller counts sit at the classifier's false-positive floor
- Instrument readings
- measured once on the study corpus for this model and prompt: frozen calibration, not properties of this run
- · aspect tagging vs. human labels
- 0.766 [0.713–0.811] (F1 against a human-labeled test set; 1.0 is best)
- · quotes filed under the wrong aspect
- 11.6% [6.6–19.6] of quotes, measured by hand on a sample; lower is better
- · independent model vs. production labels
- 0.791 [0.772–0.810] (F1 of the production labeler against an independent judge model)
