Rise of the Tomb Raider™
analyzed 2026-10-13 · sample of 379 English reviews across the whole review history
Across 379 sampled reviews, graphics draw the most consistent praise, with 76 of 79 mentions positive, and players describe "great graphics" alongside "beautiful and diverse environments". Gameplay and exploration follow a similar pattern, and puzzles recur as a theme players bring up, often tied to the tombs. Story is the most discussed aspect at 26.9%, but opinion there is less uniform: 70 positive mentions against 25 negative, with players writing "the story was pretty good" while others find less to like. Combat and characters split more sharply. Combat earns 27 positive and 12 negative mentions, with players noting "the diversity of the combat mechanics", while characters draw 19 positive against 12 negative. Bugs are the clearest negative cluster: 14 of 17 mentions are negative, including reports that "One bug at the end of the game kept me from beating it". Stability and AI behavior also skew negative, and game length draws 10 negative mentions against 3 positive. Smaller aspects round out the picture. Atmosphere, sound design, and voice acting are almost uniformly positive, and DLC is mostly well received. Controls, balance, and platform access divide mentions evenly, while price and value lean positive.

As you explore ancient tombs, solve puzzles, and combat foes, you will feel like a true explorer.
-
Rise of the Tomb Raider feels just right to give me enough enjoyment exploring the world without feeling like it is all just filler content to make the game appear to be as big as possible.
-
The game also features beautiful and diverse environments which make exploring the game world a thrilling experience.

Additionally, the game's protagonist, Lara Croft, has been praised for her character development and growth throughout the game.

Nice game and Lare is babe
-
The story is fun, the gameplay is great, the voice acting is spot on, and you can really see how Lara progresses from the first game's skills and story into her more Tomb Raider-y character.

having just completed story mode, i'm interested in going back and finding all the secrets i missed as a lot of the different areas are quite open and interesting to explore.

Additionally the maps are incredibly rich with things to do in this game; optional tombs, relics, documents, hunting etc. I felt like the puzzles in this game were worse than the previous instalment, they were easy and felt repetitive.

In short - I like leveling up.
-
The first half of the game felt very samey, to he point where I had to confirm I hadn't already played "Rise" before, but you eventually get some traversal abilities that are new to the series and help set the action apart.
-
The cinematography is so good in this game, the story is perfect, action is good, and I love the customization and abilities you can upgrade.

there was a lot of action, the story was pretty good, and there were great graphics.
-
The aesthetic of Rise, featuring far more saturated colours than the muddy washed out browns of Tomb Raider (2013), goes a long way to making that exploration more rewarding, and the more linear sections also function tightly and are well paced.

Tension is there throughout the game until the great ending.

controls

The other thing that can get annoying is dying on the platforming because the response to the gamepad lags some or the direction shifts.
-
Hektisch wirkt das Spiel auf mich, weil die controler - typische Bedienung oft nur Bruchteile von Sekunden Zeit lässt, um den richtigen move zu setzen .
-
Compared to the frst TR this feels like a real Console Game - "so much automatic movement"

I actually really loved the Blood Ties DLC as a simple little bonus campaign that expanded on Lara and her family as characters.
-
They also added a noteworthy 'point' mode to enhance replayability, and I've heard good things about the DLC (endurance mode).

With the 20 years celebration you will get ALL dlc, and some extra cards.

This was my last game of the franchise, honestly it was a blast, but yeah to 100% it took more time than it shouldve, but over all still fun to complete everything.

If it wasn't for the price or the lenght, I would totally recommend it.

Using remnants of the Byzantines as a plot point is cool, the Byzantines are underutilised in this sort of setting, and Trinity are a fine antagonistic force.

The challenge tombs are varied and never felt stale.
-
The gameplay is smooth and engaging—puzzle-solving in the tombs is clever, combat feels satisfying, and the crafting system adds real depth.
-
-Fantastic Pacing: The main story, which is mainly big set piece moments, cutscenes, intense combat and stealth encounters, is broken up by large "open world" locations with side quests, challenges, and tombs (platforming puzzles) that help slow down the intense nature of the main story.

Somehow the interface is bugged with a controller because when you select cards, you also still operate the menu in the background resulting in starting the game when you don’t want to.

Would be great if there was an on-screen health meter or map destination to prevent constant switching between game play and map view.

ai behavior

Dumb AI makes most fights easy in survival difficulty, unless the animation leaves you in the middle of a crowd.
-
If one bad guy spots you, they all will know exactly where you are, and you generally can't escape them their after, but rather have to shoot your way through them instead of reverting to a more subtle approach.
-
As long as 1 of the enemy found the body, they do a sweep search and sometimes hiding behind pillars or boxes, they still find you. Its iffy.

How this report was made
- Population
- all Steam reviews of the game (every language, purchase type, and verdict), walked newest-first per window; only English-language reviews are analyzed
- Sample
- 379 English reviews, time-proportional draw over 130 windows (newest-first within each), taken from an all-language walk and kept English-only — where English is a minority the sample runs smaller than the draw, and every margin of error is computed at 379
- Aspect yield
- 215 of 379 analyzed reviews carry at least one aspect (56.7%); every share on this page divides by all 379
- Interval regime
- calm: standard margins of error for a share of a sample (Wilson interval), no widening needed
- Fetch paths
- 130 time windows fetched directly (windowed)
- Language mix
- 1,000 fetched: english 382 · schinese 132 · brazilian 101 · 21 more
- Steam-marked windows
- none flagged by Steam (Valve's off-topic flagging began March 2019)
- Marked share
- 0.0% of sample inside marked windows, under the 2% floor
- Narrative
- passed the grounding gate first try
- Evidence floor
- aspects and emergent themes appear only with 5+ supporting reviews; smaller counts sit at the classifier's false-positive floor
- Instrument readings
- measured once on the study corpus for this model and prompt: frozen calibration, not properties of this run
- · aspect tagging vs. human labels
- 0.801 [0.752–0.844] (F1 against a human-labeled test set; 1.0 is best)
- · quotes filed under the wrong aspect
- 11.6% [6.6–19.6] of quotes, measured by hand on a sample; lower is better — measured on the prior model (2026-08-05); re-measurement pending
- · independent model vs. production labels
- 0.791 [0.772–0.810] (F1 of the production labeler against an independent judge model) — measured on the prior model (2026-07-25); re-measurement pending
