Little Nightmares
analyzed 2026-08-08 · sample of 376 English reviews across the whole review history
Players consistently describe Little Nightmares as a visually striking and unsettling experience. Atmosphere is the most frequently mentioned aspect, with nearly a quarter of sampled reviews bringing it up, and the overwhelming majority of those are positive. The art style, graphics, music, and sound design are all praised in almost every review that mentions them, with players calling the art and music "on point" and noting that the sound design "enhances the creepy atmosphere". The story and lore also draw strong approval, though a few reviews find the storytelling unclear. The most common criticism concerns length. Among reviews mentioning game length, 49 are negative versus 13 positive, with players calling it "a bit short for the money" and noting it is "Short game (about 4 hours)". Controls are another sore spot, with 24 negative mentions out of 30, described as "incredibly poor" and "very clunky, especially with a keyboard & mouse." Difficulty splits opinion evenly, with some finding it reasonable and others saying the levels are "pretty easy levels to figure out". Puzzles come up as a recurring theme, with praise for the puzzle elements but occasional frustration when the next step is "not always obvious what to do next".

This game is dark, both literally and figuratively.
-
Creepy, atmospheric and will give you cute little nightmares.
-
It's beautiful though, and the nightmarish part of it is...well...disturbing. In a good way.

My one gripe is it's too short but that's largely offset if you combine the DLCs with it.
-
Great little game, if maybe a bit short for the money.
-
Very short too so get it on sale.

Creepy platform puzzler, short but very engaging.
-
I enjoyed the small puzzle elements, till I realized the camera angles and controls are incredibly poor and caused a lot of death for me, died instantly from enemies and the darkness is just purely annoying; a game won't be scary simply from the darkness!
-
imagine a game where you have to escape and can not fight back for the duration of it.

-
After you figure out the slightly-wonky controls, it's an amazing experience.
-
Movement is very clunky, especially with a keyboard & mouse. Had to creatively contort my hands in a few areas to have enough fingers to actually do the movements needed, and there were times it was really clunky to get things lined up correctly.

I love this game, second favorite game on steam, I might have played the second one first but i love it, Also stuck on DLC that is scarier than the main game lol.
-
The DLCs are great too, especially The Residence.
-
The DLC are, while in terms of gameplay a bit of a regression in my opinion, Absolutely worth playing.

Well designed. Very cool and interesting art style.

You will be going through many different rooms in the ship, from kitchens to storerooms, from residential to industrial parts of the vessel, all grossly oversized compared to the protagonist.

El estilo artitico es grotesco, pulido y totalmente en sintonía con el resto del juego, tiene una atención al detalle fenomenal y el mundo habla por si solo, supliendo la escasa narrativa explicita que tiene.

bugs

-
And, in one or two instances in the DLC, key objects in rooms needed to progress would literally glitch out and disappear, rendering me to restart and do everything over again.
-
Wish I could give it more bad reviews, on account of it having a gamebreaking bug that affects few enough people that even with bug related bad reviews like mine it's still "very positive" and they have no motivation to fix the bug.
-
This is also annoying because I found the game very difficult so when the controls where buggy or the game glitched it was super annoying.

How this report was made
- Population
- all Steam reviews of the game (every language, purchase type, and verdict), walked newest-first per window; only English-language reviews are analyzed
- Sample
- 376 English reviews, time-proportional draw over 113 windows (newest-first within each), taken from an all-language walk and kept English-only — where English is a minority the sample runs smaller than the draw, and every margin of error is computed at 376
- Aspect yield
- 212 of 376 analyzed reviews carry at least one aspect (56.4%); every share on this page divides by all 376
- Interval regime
- calm: standard margins of error for a share of a sample (Wilson interval), no widening needed
- Fetch paths
- 113 time windows fetched directly (windowed)
- Language mix
- 1,000 fetched: english 377 · russian 153 · spanish 107 · 22 more
- Steam-marked windows
- none flagged by Steam (Valve's off-topic flagging began March 2019)
- Marked share
- 0.0% of sample inside marked windows, under the 2% floor
- Narrative
- passed the grounding gate after one corrective retry
- Evidence floor
- aspects and emergent themes appear only with 5+ supporting reviews; smaller counts sit at the classifier's false-positive floor
- Instrument readings
- measured once on the study corpus for this model and prompt: frozen calibration, not properties of this run
- · aspect tagging vs. human labels
- 0.766 [0.713–0.811] (F1 against a human-labeled test set; 1.0 is best)
- · quotes filed under the wrong aspect
- 11.6% [6.6–19.6] of quotes, measured by hand on a sample; lower is better
- · independent model vs. production labels
- 0.791 [0.772–0.810] (F1 of the production labeler against an independent judge model)
