analyzed 2026-10-04 · sample of 516 English reviews across the whole review history
Across 516 sampled reviews, gameplay is the most-mentioned aspect, at 18.6%, and it is overwhelmingly positive there. Players describe satisfaction from solving problems, and one calls it "a fun game to play". Addictiveness follows at 13.2%, almost entirely positive, with reviewers writing "I cannot stop playing this game". Replayability, art style, content amount, updates, and price value all draw mostly favorable mentions, and the physics simulation, mod support, and duplicant personality recur as things players bring up. The learning curve is the clearest friction point: 14.7% of reviews mention it, and negative mentions outnumber positive ones. One reviewer notes "There is no tutorial, so there is a lot of guess work at the start." Difficulty splits more evenly, drawing both praise as "Challenging yet enjoyable" and complaints, while relaxation is mixed, with stress described as part of the experience. Smaller shares flag other concerns. AI behavior is mentioned in 1.9% of reviews and skews negative, as does performance at the same share, with reports of lag spikes. Bugs appear in 1.4%, also leaning negative. Balance draws few mentions and divides those.

There is no tutorial, so there is a lot of guess work at the start. But if you keep at it, you will eventually understand the mechanics of the game.
-
kind of confusing if youre a dummy like me and dont watch the tutorials.
-
It took me longer than 2 hours to figure out, I am most definitely not the target audience for this game.

And then within two weeks when I'm soundly asleep in my bed I have a dream where I come up with a new solution to an issue I've been having in my base and I immediately reinstall it to try it out.

Super big learning curve, but their are amazing step by step tutorials to get you started on youtube.
-
Community is great, lot of resources to learn from.
-
There isn't much of a tutorial at the moment, so if you want to get a good understanding of the game before you jump in, you will find a load of YouTube videos that should help.

trust me when i say Dupes are not too bright.
-
Frustratingly stupid AI. My colonists are prioritizing excavating in every direction except the one that would give them oxygen, even after I set priority manually.
-
Klei delivered yet another stress-inducing masterpiece where you spend the entire day worrying about the health and safety of dumb, ineffective squeaker toys that make music sounds in a cartoon atmosphere full of messed up situations disguised as quaint.

This game would be so much better if unity used more than 1 core

FPS Death (Endgame Performance): Once your base spans the entire map with thousands of pipes, wires, and pathfinding calculations, the game's frame rate can drop significantly on mid-range PCs.

hope your Hvac certified lol seriously an amazing survival sim game, after a 100 hours i can say its nearly a perfect sim
-
Including a sandbox mode to test and explore the game is well thought out considering how sophisticated the game can get down to details that different gases have different weights and temperatures.

-
Good game, immersive gameplay, difficulty is kinda unbalanced when you go to the surface, everything being easy and then suddenly you are encountering meteor strikes and duplicants getting entombed constantly, otherwise, amazing gameplay.
-
While I did get frustrated with some of the Early Access builds--having no way to combat the heat-death of your colony was not very fun--it has long since been refined into a truly excellent experience.
-
I think my only complaint at time of writing this (Dec, 2020) was that the Zombie Spores are ridiculously OP / unbalanced.

How this report was made
- Population
- all Steam reviews of the game (every language, purchase type, and verdict), walked newest-first per window; only English-language reviews are analyzed
- Sample
- 516 English reviews, time-proportional draw over 114 windows (newest-first within each), taken from an all-language walk and kept English-only — where English is a minority the sample runs smaller than the draw, and every margin of error is computed at 516
- Aspect yield
- 314 of 516 analyzed reviews carry at least one aspect (60.9%); every share on this page divides by all 516
- Interval regime
- calm: standard margins of error for a share of a sample (Wilson interval), no widening needed
- Fetch paths
- 114 time windows fetched directly (windowed)
- Language mix
- 1,000 fetched: english 517 · schinese 159 · russian 105 · 20 more
- Steam-marked windows
- none flagged by Steam (Valve's off-topic flagging began March 2019)
- Marked share
- 0.0% of sample inside marked windows, under the 2% floor
- Narrative
- passed the grounding gate first try
- Evidence floor
- aspects and emergent themes appear only with 5+ supporting reviews; smaller counts sit at the classifier's false-positive floor
- Instrument readings
- measured once on the study corpus for this model and prompt: frozen calibration, not properties of this run
- · aspect tagging vs. human labels
- 0.801 [0.752–0.844] (F1 against a human-labeled test set; 1.0 is best)
- · quotes filed under the wrong aspect
- 11.6% [6.6–19.6] of quotes, measured by hand on a sample; lower is better — measured on the prior model (2026-08-05); re-measurement pending
- · independent model vs. production labels
- 0.791 [0.772–0.810] (F1 of the production labeler against an independent judge model) — measured on the prior model (2026-07-25); re-measurement pending
