DOOM Eternal
analyzed 2026-10-04 · sample of 671 English reviews across the whole review history
Across 671 sampled reviews, combat is the most frequently raised aspect, at 17.0%, and it leans positive: 80 positive mentions against 21 negative. Players describe a game that "makes you think fast every second of combat", with "the constant fast pace" and "the juiced up speed compared to doom2016" recurring under pacing. Music draws 9.2% of mentions and is overwhelmingly positive, with "an awesome metal soundtrack" and "booming soundtrack by Mick Gordon" typical. Graphics, at 5.1%, is similarly lopsided, and content amount, world, and replayability are positive without a single negative mention. Opinion splits and friction points are also visible. Story appears in 7.5% of reviews and divides them, 25 positive to 17 negative. Level design, at 6.7%, tilts negative, 21 against 18, with complaints that "environments are overly complicated with clutter." Balance is the sharpest negative, 20 negative to 5 positive, and bugs, at 2.1%, runs 12 negative to 2. Difficulty, at 8.6%, is mostly praised but not unanimously. Smaller aspects surface repeatedly: multiplayer, platform access, stability, and ui all draw more criticism than praise, while progression, lore, and dlc are largely favorable. The picture is a game whose core loop and presentation carry it, with the disagreements clustered around story, level design, and balance.

The gunplay is still there as is the awesome soundtrack and good level design (when you aren't parkour slayer that is)

The Mechanics and weapons in this game are fantastic, for the reason that each one has a purpose, unlike Doom 2016 where many of the mechanics and weapons had no practical use.

The fast-paced gameplay and tactical GENOCIDE makes a perfect combo.

… but Doom Eternal's beautiful open landscape ( which is some of the best i've seen in any game, not just the Doom franchise ) and its absurd mechanics beats it every time in my opinion.

) while being knocked around by AoE blasts and demons spawning/teleporting behind you doesn't quite fit the hilariously over the top story of the doomslayer.

Honestly at first it was boring but as i progressed the story got better and so did the combat I'm only playing it on Hurt me plenty and there are tough areas, but I'm generally having a good time Tho I will say the developers think this is a Mario bros game with all the platforming

I guess environments are overly complicated with clutter.
-
I do have a small complaint here and there, namely that the last couple of levels feel like they had less time put into them than the rest of the game and the music, like Doom 2016, is very djent-chuggy and repetitive (but that's more a taste thing than anything).

Many demons have weak points and resistances, ammo capacity is reduced to force you to use the chainsaw more often, movement speed is reduced to make you use the dash and meathook constantly.

Normal difficulty seems way too hard, if I wanted a harder campaign I'd choose a harder difficulty.

Not that it is a bad game or performs terribly technically, it just doesn't feel as fun as DOOM 2016.

You are given more mobility tools this time, such as being able to use monkeybars and climb specific parts of cliffs that have indents in them, a double dash move, as well as a grappling hook to attach and hook into enemies with, making the moment-to-moment gameplay more dynamic and fast-paced.
-
Mobility has been upgraded via double dash combined with double jump, dash recharge, swings and even a meat hook!
-
Fantastic game, lots more moving about vertically then Doom 2016.

There are a lot of secrets throughout the game; you will find some personal customization in your homebase and even an old school PC :)
-
Even more secrets to find this time, and a Doomguy cave to admire them all in.
-
Secret hunting is also very much present, but a well refined automap makes it fairly painless.

It took me about 6 hours to get into the groove of the game, after getting all of the ammo and health upgrades and it was a LOT more fun.
-
For the first three hours or so I was struggling with the game, not sure if I liked it.

The mechanics may require attention at first but you will find you need every bit of armor and ammo you can muster :) The animations are smooth and fast, even the wall grab feels good.

art style

The Demons in Doom Eternal are more in line with the original games, but with a modern twist on it, having more vibrant and colorful designs than any of its predecessors.
-
just exploring all the levels is worth the full price i must admit, beautifully made, its a piece of art.
-
Sure, it's another Doom game and you know what you are getting but this game is gorgeous, especially on Ultra Nightmare settings if you have the PC to handle it, but even at the lower resolutions it remains a blast to play and looks really cool.

The game is the same game as DOOM 2016 with new levels, a healthy handful of new monsters, and some tweaks and bare-minimum additions to the weapons.

enemies sometimes could dodge attacks in an "only possible for bots" fashion and end up breaking the animation sequences;

Also, I absolutely love the arm blade and equipment launcher, but I much prefer the 2016 Praetor suit.

The enemy AI in this game does not pull punches.
-
The resource managment, weapon balance, mods, upgrades, AI, and movement create a deep, frantic, chaotic scramble to survive and murder you'll love trying to master.

Pair this with an incredible improvement on the AI from Doom 2016, and you have an action packed heart racing shooter.

Would love to play this game if the developers actually made it possible to turn off the low health warning which makes you almost blind.
-
The only complaint I have is the BFG is on the weapon wheel and so many times I pull it out and waste a shot.
-
I think the most common issue would be, the minimap doesn't work in HDR.

How this report was made
- Population
- all Steam reviews of the game (every language, purchase type, and verdict), walked newest-first per window; only English-language reviews are analyzed
- Sample
- 671 English reviews, time-proportional draw over 79 windows (newest-first within each), taken from an all-language walk and kept English-only — where English is a minority the sample runs smaller than the draw, and every margin of error is computed at 671
- Aspect yield
- 269 of 671 analyzed reviews carry at least one aspect (40.1%); every share on this page divides by all 671
- Interval regime
- calm: standard margins of error for a share of a sample (Wilson interval), no widening needed
- Fetch paths
- 79 time windows fetched directly (windowed)
- Language mix
- 1,000 fetched: english 674 · spanish 69 · russian 59 · 20 more
- Steam-marked windows

- Narrative
- passed the grounding gate first try
- Evidence floor
- aspects and emergent themes appear only with 5+ supporting reviews; smaller counts sit at the classifier's false-positive floor
- Instrument readings
- measured once on the study corpus for this model and prompt: frozen calibration, not properties of this run
- · aspect tagging vs. human labels
- 0.801 [0.752–0.844] (F1 against a human-labeled test set; 1.0 is best)
- · quotes filed under the wrong aspect
- 11.6% [6.6–19.6] of quotes, measured by hand on a sample; lower is better — measured on the prior model (2026-08-05); re-measurement pending
